ASCII
ASCII is an acronym for American Standard Code for Information Interchange. When you post your resume on HotJobs.com, our system converts it to ASCII text. This allows all our member companies to read it -- regardless of what word processors or Web browsers they use.

Member Company
The hiring companies or staffing agencies that are currently subscribing to one of our desktop products. People who purchase a one-time job post are not considered a member company. See also "direct employers" or "staffing firms."

myHotJobs
HotJobs' personalized section for storing your resume and organizing your job search.

Personal Job Search Agent
HotJobs' tool for sorting through job postings. Matches your keywords with the latest job postings and e-mails you the results of its search daily.

Direct Employers
Companies that are looking to fill internal positions. These jobs are posted directly by the companies that are looking to hire. There is no "third person." The job seeker sends their resume directly to the company they wish to work for -- not a headhunter or search firm.

Staffing Firms
Companies that are paid to place employees at other companies. This includes headhunters, temporary staffing agencies and executive recruiters. The job seeker chooses to make their resume available to staffing firms.
